Are you a 'wonder' woman? Do you wonder what that means? Do you wonder at the world? Do you wonder at your own insignificance? Do you wonder why? When? Where? To wonder is to be curious. It also is to stand in awe. Are the two definitions (loosely defined, I admit.) related? I know I am insatiably curious. I know this because when I get wondering, my children usually say, "Ding". That's code for I'm finished, mom. I can out-curious anyone. But wondering in terms of standing in awe is another thing. That wondering I'd like to cultivate more, for there is so much to amaze. Wikipedia states wonder is "an emotion comparable to surprise that people feel when perceiving something rare or unexpected." For me, so many 'common' and 'ordinary' experiences are rare and unexpected, a wonder, when I take the time to practice wide- awakeness, when I stop from my busyness to breathe and really 'see, hear, touch, smell and taste' what's right in front of me. Let's be Wonderpeople and awaken each other. |
