"The Tree Doth Giveth
Hasn’t the tree given us enough? Go paperless on your next project! It is that time of year when many schools are working on projects. Here are a few ways you can incorporate Web 2.0 tools in conjunction with the study of personification, simile, and metaphor. All of these tools focus on the tree as inspiration. Big Huge Labs: Upload an image to create a magazine cover. Create a dialogue or poem to overlay on top of the image. Tagxedo: Compose a poem and choose a color, theme, layout, shape etc… Tagxedo will give emphasis tow words (Tagxedo_instructions) Pizap: Upload an image and add text and speech bubbles to it." as found October 15, 2014 @ http://techchef4u.wordpress.com/2011/05/17/the-tree-doth-giveth/ I have used Taxedo for another project and it is definitely doable and makes a very cool display! "PRODUCT DESCRIPTIONThis tree observation journal is for a classroom year-long observation of a tree. This meets the science inquiry standard of observing and asking questions about the natural environment.
Included in the journal:
* A cover page
* A journal page for each month. Included are three types of pages. One page has the month and a sentence starter in dotted print. The second type has only the month in dotted print. The last type has no dotted print-the student will write everything independently. This allows for differentiation and a gradual release of responsibility. "

"Metaphors:
The massive tree was an umbrella, sheltering the cows from the rain. The sapling tree was a withering child, slumped over and quivering in the bitter cold wind. The majestic redwood was a stone tower, a solid and unmovable thing that had its top in the clouds. Similes: The tree was bumpy and gnarled like the hands of an old crone. The tree was like a bustling city, home to thousands of tiny creatures all competing for survival. " The link below is FILLED with beautiful examples of metaphor. as found @ https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20100919183246AArBT07 This British website,

Words for Plants & Trees
Find words and phrases to describe living plants and trees. This site is a valuable resource as it gives you list of words to describe living plants and trees. You will find sections separated into adjectives, nouns, verbs, negaties and phrases. Examples of some adjectives are as follows:
"How can a tree be seen as a metaphor for an internal process? What lessons and truths can it offer us?
The Thai Buddhist monk Ajahn Chah says, “we can learn dhamma [law of nature, truth, Buddha’s teachings] from a tree.” The tree can awaken us to aspects of our own existence we had forgotten or neglected. For one, the tree offers us a lesson in impermanence. Each year, the tree gracefully sheds its leaves, and each spring they come back. In some ways, it is the “same” tree year after year, but in other ways, it’s completely different. Like the tree shedding leaves, our bodies shed cells. This is happening at an astounding rate: 50 to 70 billion a day! We feel like the same person a year ago, even if most of our cells are not the same. The tree reminds us of the cycles which happen everywhere in nature, including in ourselves." For more, see the link below. A very interesting site to absorb. I'd highly recommend it. as found @ http://www.chooseyourmetaphor.com/wiki-metaphor-tree/ |

Idea! How about writing an "I Am Poem" about yourself and another about a tree of your choice? (Compare/contrast)
